INTRO TO HANDBUILDING: CLAY, CHAOS & CREATION
6 Weeks | Fired Up & Feral | 2.5 hours per session
Ready to get your hands dirty?
This six-week course is a deep dive into the fundamentals of handbuilding with clay—perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to reconnect with making. No wheels, no pressure, just you, your hands, and a lump of earth ready to become something brilliant.
Across six relaxed, hands-on sessions, you’ll learn core techniques including pinching, coiling, and slab building, alongside the essential skills that make your pieces actually work—construction, refining, drying, and glazing.
We’ll guide you through creating a collection of functional and sculptural pieces, from mugs and bowls to more experimental forms. There’s space to play, make mistakes, and find your own style—whether that’s neat and minimal or fully feral.
By the end of the course, you’ll:
- Understand the key handbuilding techniques
- Know how to construct pieces that survive the kiln
- Learn how to refine, decorate, and finish your work
- Explore glazing and surface design
- Leave with a collection of finished, fired pieces to be proud of
Expect a welcoming, slightly chaotic studio atmosphere, plenty of tea, and a healthy amount of clay under your nails.
What’s included:
All materials, tools, firings, and glazes. Just bring yourself (and clothes you don’t mind getting messy).
Sessions run:
Monday evenings or Saturday evenings
2.5 hours per session
